DOUBLE POSTPONEMENT MEANS ANOTHER LOST WEEKEND

27th February 2010 - The 1st teams derby clash away at Croston Sports became a victim of Friday's torrential rain. The Reserve team's much awaited game against BAC/EE Springfields was also postponed due to a waterlogged Station Road pitch.

Jordan Smethurst and Richard Burns sealed the 1st team's debut point of 2010 in what was an unusual day at Station Road.

Goals from John Ascroft, Ben Goodson and Josh Brierly gave the second eleven 3 precious points as they keep up the pressure on leaders Stoneclough.

The A-Team revival continues as Dave Ball and Chris Smith lead the thrid string to a quarter-final victory over Division 3 side Leyland Red Rose A. The winning goal came from the ever dangerous Will Ascroft.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

19th February 2010 - As spring approaches the 3 senior teams will be hoping for a run of games that can re-focus their seasons.

The 1st team return to Station Road and resume league action with the visit of Burnley United (Kick off at 3.00pm).

Andrew Burns takes the Reserves to bottom side Bolton County as they resume their chase of Stoneclough and hopes of the title and subsequent promotion (kick off at 3.00pm). The A-Team meet Leyland Red Rose (a team from a division higher than them) in the Quarter-Finals of the Shakespeare Cup.

UNDER 10'S BAG THE CASH!

18th February 2010 - Stuart Clayton's Under 10 team raised a massive £417.75 for the football club with their bag packing efforts at Morrisons in Southport. On behalf of the club we wish to congratulate this mammouth effort. The Under 10's haven't finished yet though and have plans for more bag packing events in the future. Well Done to everyone who took part.

SMETHURST JOINS THE 100 CLUB!

18th February 2010 - Midfielder Jordan Smethurst played his 100th game for the 1st team in the cup victory away at Norcross & Warbreck. Jordan made his debut in 2005 and enters the 100 club at just 20 years of age. He is one of the youngest players to reach 100 games and on behalf of the club we congratulate him and hopefully he will appear many more times in a Hesketh Bank shirt. TWO GAMES, TWO CLUBS, TWO CUPS!

12th February 2010 - This weekend Vaughn Birkby takes the first team to play Norcross & Warbreck at the HASSRA Sports Ground, Cleveleys in the 1st round of the President's Cup. Meanwhile Norcross & Warbreck Reserves travel in the other direction to face Hesketh Bank Reserves in the 1st round of the Houston Cup at Station Road. The A-Team are in league action away at Ribbleton Rovers.

Sunday will see Steve Kilburn take his under 9 side to New Longton Rovers. New Longton beat the under 9's 6-1 at Guide Road this past weekend so this immediate return fixture will give the 9's a chance for a positive reply. Stuart Clayton's Under 10's are at home (Guide Road) to Leyland Albion Red. The under 11's have their work cut out against high flyers Aspull Juniors while the Under 14's play Ribchester Juniors at Shore Road. The Under 18's have a weekend off as they have no fixture.

JUNIOR ROUND-UP

7th February 2010

This past Sunday saw a full programme of fixtures for the junior section of HBAFC.

Steve Kilburn's Under 9's were beaten 6-1 at home (Guide Road) by New Longton Rovers. The Under 10's were narrowly beaten 3-1 away at League leaders Myerscough Red. The Under 11's returned to Ashton Park only to be defeated 5-0 by AC Preston. The Under 14's had their home (Shore Road) game against Gregson Lane abandoned after a serious injury to an opposition player. The Under 18's suffered a 5-0 defeat away at Bolton County.

John Read's team continued their march toward promotion from the Central Lancs B Division with an impressive victory over Bamber Bridge at Shore Road. Striker Luke Drummond scored his second hat-trick in as many weeks, taking his season tally to 15. Click here for Darren McDonald's match report.

A-TEAM MAKE THE QUARTER-FINALS

Dave Ball and Chris Smith's A-Team made it into the hat for the last eight of the Preston and District leagues Shakespeare Cup with a solid 3-1 victory over Farington Villa. This season saw the return of Hesketh Bank's A-Team (3rd team) and while they struggle to make an impact in the league this is a step in the right direction.

After the efforts of Morgan Dodgson and his team the Station Road pitch was cleared of snow and deemed fit to host this huge Army Quarter-Final. The game saw the English regiment come out 4-1 winners. The English regiment will play their Semi-Final at Station Road sometime in the near future.
