Below is the resignation letter handed to the committee on Thursday 27th May 2010.

Dear all,

This is an open letter to all at Hesketh Bank Football Club. I am writing to inform you of my resignation from the committee and football club, but not as 1st team manager as I was asked to step down as manager on Monday morning at work by your chairman. After a little conversation with Paul he said he wanted a change and new direction which is fine if that is the view shared by all, but after last season's 3 awards, team of the month, manager of the month, charter status, highest league placings for years for the 1st and 2nd teams. The presidents cup sitting proudly in the sports bar I think stability is needed not change.

After 3 years building a team to compete in the west lancs league I thought we were turning a corner and well on our way to higher things. My reasons for leaving are not that I would be managing the 1st team, I have always said I would step down when the time was right it is because of the way it has been done. I feel totally let down by people I once called friends I know these people only wants whats best for the club, but sometimes you have to walk before you can run. With the plans I was putting into place I feel we were about to start to jog, lets hope my replacement who ever it is can get the club sprinting. I would like to thank everyone at Hesketh Bank Football Club for all the great memories and times I have enjoyed with you all over the years. From 25 years ago when I first helped Don to all the boys teams I have worked with. The Peters years double winners, one and a half seasons ressies manager to the last 3 and a half years as 1st team manager. All great times. A special thank you goes to everyone who has helped and supported me in everything I have done over the years too many to name, but you know who you are thank you. Personally I would like to thank Danny Wilson, James Smith and Dave Sutton, three men who have helped tremendously and been an inspiration to me, and along with myself are the reason why this club is in such a great position playing wise. I hope the club continues on upward path and wish you every success in the future.

Yours in sport Vaughan Birkby
