HAS THIS MYSTERY BEEN SOLVED?
Recently we recieved a photo from Peter Matthews (below). It was originally thought that the game was played at Tarleton's old ground situated behind Tarleton Bowling Club, however Peter himself believes the game was played at Station Road. His belief comes after a trip down to Station Road for a mild investigation. If you compare the bottom photo (1970's) to Peter's most recent photo you can clearly see a similarity in the houses behind the goal.

WESTERN AREA (NORTH) TA FOOTBALL CUP FINAL
Sunday 20th December 2009
On a very cold and snow bound day the Western Area North TA Army Cup final was held at the Centenary Sports ground between 4 Lancs based at Fulwood Barracks and 156 Tpt Regiment based at Bootle.
The match was all square at the end of normal time at 2-2. Thankfully the referee decided to go straight to a penalty shoot out and the Bootle based team ran out 5-4 winners and now go into the national competition along with 7 other teams from around the country.
They are hoping to stage this national quarter final at the Centenary Sports ground on Sunday 17 th January and their opponents will be travelling down from Scotland .

A FLASH OF THE PAST
The below picture is circa 1970s and was sent to us by Peter Byrne. It is a snapshot of two Hesketh Bank goals in a match against the old enemy, Tarleton Corinthians. The game was played at Tarleton's old ground which was situated behind Tarleton Bowling club.
To see a larger version simply click on the below image.

'This is obviously a Tarleton v Hesketh Bank match which was played at Tarleton's old ground behind the Bowling Club (remember it was a cow field and the changing rooms were an old chicken shed with a bath of cold water outside!)
The guardian of the post' is definitely Philip Caunce remember him from our (Tarleton) all conquering Sunday league side of 1978?
The guy at the side of the post looks like Harry Buck and the defender in the bottom picture could be Dick Quinlan. '
