31/07/10 - FRIENDLY RESULTS

The 1st team played the first game at Station Road since May. The game proved an excellent test. We played some quick, close possession football but were undone by some tired defensive frailties. Opponents Burscough Richmond brought their full squad and tried out almost 20 players. The Reserves faced another Preston and District league outfit Ribbleton Rovers at Shore Road. With a bare eleven they lost two men from injury and a sending off. The game finished 6-2.

Look out for full match reports starting next Saturday (The Big Kick Off).

26/07/2010 - FRIENDLY RESULTS

The first two friendly games of the season have come and gone. With players still on holiday and some unavailable Andrew Burns is still in the progress of shaping the team he will send out to face Haslingden on August 7th.

Those who have played in the friendly games have given the management plenty to think about as two games have produced to promising results. The opening match against last seasons Preston and District Premier Division Champions Appley Bridge saw us pick up a convincing 3-1 victory. This past Saturday the opposition quality was increased as the side faced Maghull at Shore Road. This produced an entertaining 3-3 draw, a good result considering we went 2-0 down after 5 minutes.

This Thursday the 1st team play their 3rd freindly against Sunday side Portland at Shore Road.

17/07/2010 - JUNIOR PRESENTATION DAY

Back in June the Locker Room witnessed the first ever Junior Presentation day. It was a successful afternoon of football fun, barbecue grub and well earnt awards.

The inaugral Tornado Trophy proved to be a success and despite the wet weather was enjoyed by all the players. The presentation itself saw our young players rewarded for their spirit and efforts over the past year.

I will endevour to compile a full list of award winners before the start of the new season. The junior section of the club has been given a new lease of life and is now steadily improving both on and off the field. This is in no small part down to new managers, coaches and volunteers that are passionate about providing football for the children of the local community. There are too many names to list but for everyone involved with the Under 7s all the way up to the Under 14s I say on behalf of the football club and the village a tremendous thank you. Good luck to all of you in 2010/2011.

17/07/10 - STATION ROAD PITCH REPAIRS

This summer has seen the Station Road pitch endure a series of improvements. Morgan Dodgson coordinated the efforts that focused on the troublesome far bottom corner (at the Station Road end). The work should reduce the number of fixtures postponed due to a waterlogged surface.

The only downside to the improvements is that the pitch may not be ready until the 1st leageu game on the 7th August. This means no home pre-season fixtures at Station Road.

17/07/2010 - PRE-SEASON TRAINING

Head coach Dave Sutton and new Reserve team manager Evergreen have taken most of the pre-season sessions with 1st team manager Andrew Burns casting his eye over the players at his disposal. As usual there has been the much needed fitness work. This has been combined with plenty of possession drills. There is a good atmosphere around the squad and anyone yet to return back for training - get a move on fatboy!
